I'm a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, with an unrestricted professional license to practice individual, group, and couple psychotherapy, and over nineteen years of post-graduate school experience. I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work (MSW) and a Master's degree in Public Health (MPH), both from Boston University. My undergraduate degree is in Psychology (B.S.) from Louisiana State University.
Prior to attending graduate school in Boston, my work focused on developing and implementing various health and leadership programs for adolescents in an urban, alternative high school in Orlando, Florida. Helping adolescents become mentors within their own peer groups, and lead by example, was the biggest joy of my work during that time.
I have experience working in both hospital and community health center settings, where I did most of my graduate training in group, individual and couple therapy. My therapeutic specializations include working within the LGBTQAI+ communities, those living with chronic illness (specifically HIV), survivors of trauma, and those working through substance abuse and co-occurring trauma and other mental health issues. The bulk of my post-graduate career has been at Fenway Health, a community health center in Boston that serves the LGBTQAI+ community, the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, and nearby colleges and music conservatories.
Believing in the bigger picture, I've also developed and implemented training curricula for the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on preventing and treating crystal methamphetamine abuse/dependence with best practices. Between 2006 and 2007, we were able to train medical providers (pediatric, primary care, and emergency services), substance abuse and mental health providers, child welfare workers, and public safety professionals on how to best intervene with methamphetamine users and manufacturers across the Commonwealth. My expertise in crystal methamphetamine assessment and treatment has brought me to various universities, medical schools, health care facilities, and agencies around New England, to guest lecture and lead workshops.
I have been adjunct faculty at the Boston University School of Social Work in their online program, and was an active member of the Boston University School of Social Work Alumni Board from 2012-2015, as it felt important to support current students, and guide the next generation of social work and psychotherapy professionals.
I began my private practice in early 2013 as a member of the Phoenix Collective in the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston because of its commitment to social justice and the LGBTQAI+ community; I maintained my practice there for over 8.5 years until the summer of 2021. I recently moved my private practice to a more rural, small town setting in Sturbridge, MA, where I currently see in-person clients and clients via a HIPAA-protected telehealth video platform. I maintain a membership with the National Association of Social Workers, and with the Massachusetts chapter.
